Thomas Hengelbrock will conduct the final concert of this year’s Ruhrtriennale, titled “Beginnings“. The concert programme includes Jan Müller-Wieland’s oratorio “Maria” and contemporary Cuban compositions.
The world premiere of “Maria” features the Cuban-European Youth Academy, Balthasar-Neumann-Choir, actors Johanna Wokalek and Peter Simonischek as well as baritone André Morsch.
The second part of the concert includes Jenny Peña Campo’s “Cuban Dance Suite” which was greeted enthusiastically by musicians and listeners alike at its world premiere in 2017. Other works by contemporary Cuban composers present an appealing view of the country’s mercurial musical life.
